  1. Every summer our street has a party, and every summer the group chat goes completely mad. Two hundred messages, and still nobody knows who's bringing the barbecue.
  2. So this year, Priya from number twelve tried something different. She started a Do on Kitty Board, and sent us a link.
  3. A Do is just one board, shared by a few families. I tapped the link, then Join, and that was it. Joining didn't cost us a penny.
  4. First, it asks if we're coming. We're in, obviously. Then I choose which of the children come along, so I picked Lily.
  5. And here's the bit I love. The other families only ever see her first name and her cat. Nothing else.
  6. Priya had already put up the jobs. Gazebo, sausages, bunting. We said we'd do the bunting, and I put it on Lily, for four hearts.
  7. Lily made it at home, at the kitchen table, glitter everywhere, and ticked it off on her own phone.
  8. Those hearts still wait for my OK, just like her jobs at home. Priya can't touch them, and nobody else can either. Lily's jar is ours.
  9. On the day, Priya held up a check-in code on her phone. Lily scanned it, and got five more hearts, just for turning up.
  10. And there's no chat on a Do, which honestly is the best thing about it. Just who's coming, and who's doing what.
  11. Next year, I'm doing Bonfire Night. Starting a Do is part of our Family plan, so I'll send the link round the street myself.
  12. And I've got a gift pass to give a friend, so Priya can have six months of the Family plan on us. That's Dos, in Kitty Board.

A Do is a board you share with other families: a playdate, a camping weekend, a birthday party or the school fair stall. Joining a Do is free on every plan. Starting one is part of the Family plan.

Start a Do

  1. On home, tap + Start a Do. Give it a name and a day.
  2. Tap Invite families to send a link from your phone. Only people with the link can join, and a new link stops the old one working.
  3. Add the jobs as cards on the board, with hearts if you like: bring the gazebo, make the bunting, run the cake stall.

Join a Do

  1. Tap the link you were sent and sign in, or make a free account.
  2. Tap We're in, Maybe or Can't come for your family.
  3. Under Our children on this Do, tap each child who's coming.
  4. Tap We'll do it on a job, then choose which of your children does it.

Your child ticks the job from their own home, and their hearts wait for your OK as always. Only you, their grown-up, can OK or take back your child's hearts.

On the day: scan in

  • A grown-up on the Do taps Show check-in code.
  • Children scan it with their phone's camera and collect the Do's arrival hearts.
  • No phone? Tap Who arrived? and pick your children who are there.
  • Kitty Board never asks where anyone is.

Safe by design

  • Other families see first names and cats only, and only the children you pick. Never surnames, emails, your other boards or anyone's Kitty Jar.
  • There's no chat on a Do, on purpose.
  • Leave this Do takes your family and children off it at once, and your open jobs go back on the board.
  • A Do ends by itself a week after its last day. The organiser can end it sooner.
  • Settings, Family and friends, Who can see lists the Dos each child is on.

Want to bring a family in? Send them a gift pass.
